Leket Israel was founded in 2003 to rescue excess, nutritious food that would have otherwise been destroyed and redirected to people in need. Seven years later, we have become Israel's umbrella organization for donations of surplus food. With a committed lineup of
volunteers and
staff members providing more than 110 tons of food per week to over 230 soup kitchens, homeless shelters, senior citizen centers and other social service organizations around Israel.
While we are proud of what we've accomplished in a short period of time, there is much work yet to be done. By the end of 2009 our
Leket program will expand operations to provide fresh produce to 14,000 Israelis every day. In addition, our
drivers and
Night-Time Food Rescue volunteers will collect approximately 12,000 surplus meals per week from bar mitzvahs, weddings, restaurants, bakeries and other catered venues, and our corporate partners will donate thousands of perishable food items nearing their expiry dates and manufactured goods that were overproduced, packaged incorrectly, or cannot be sold commercially.
Thank you for your interest in Leket Israel. We invite you to
support our organization, and to take an active role in as we try to eliminate hunger in Israel.
