U.S. Ambassador Dan Shapiro and his wife, Julie Fisher, toured the new Leket Israel facility recently, including a behind-the-scenes look at the inner workings of one of Israel’s largest food collection and redistribution operations. Shapiro was accompanied by Leket Israel founder and chairman Joseph Gitler and Leket Israel CEO Gidi Kroch. “Our food collection and redistribution model is inspired by the American model of food rescue and food banks all over the United States,” said Gitler, who hails from Teaneck, New Jersey. He acknowledged Shapiro’s help in further developing “a more effective strategy for the coming years” and noted that the ambassador and his wife “have been supporters of Leket for many years, often lending a hand volunteering in the fields picking produce for Israelis in need.”
