The food, purchased from local suppliers, injected needed funds into the southern economy, while using the food to benefit families affected by the recent nearly 2 month long conflict. Read what Leket Israel has been doing to address the heightened needs of southern residents during this trying time:<\/div>\n<div class=\"dynamiccontent\">\n<p>Sept. 4, 2014<\/p>\n<p>This week, Leket Israel purchased food from a supplier in the South to provide food for the holiday to 1,200 needy families in Ashkelon, Ashdod, Netivot, Sderot and Ofakim. This project continues what Leket started during Operation Protective Edge in an effort to bolster the struggling Southern economy so badly affected by nearly two months of conflict. In addition, during the war, Leket distributed tens of thousands of pounds of rescued &nbsp;food on a daily basis to NPOs in the South, worked hand in hand with two major IDF supply bases in the region rescuing tons of food including 400,000 bread rolls, and provided financial assistance to a single mothers support center in Ashkelon. &nbsp;Leket\u2019s staff visited all partner agencies in the South on a regular basis to assess their needs and to ensure that Leket was best meeting their requirements.<\/p>\n<p>Farmers near the Gaza border were unable to enter their fields and those a little further away could also not harvest or resow due to a lack of manpower (workers were scared to work outside). This affected both &nbsp;the current summer and coming Fall harvest seasons. &nbsp;Leket has attempted to address this by increasing the quantity of crops it will grow, until the end of the year, at Leket\u2019s self-growing project on Moshav Nahalal in the Jezreel valley.<\/p>\n<p>Once again, we want to thank all of our donors for their crucial support. &nbsp;We believe we made a positive impact on the beleaguered South during a very difficult period.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>1,200 needy families in Ashkelon, Ashdod, Netivot, Sderot and Ofakim all received a boost in preparation for the upcoming holiday with food parcels provided by Leket Israel.
