Art Materials and Instructions
General Set-up Recommended:
- Plastic cover for table (protect your surfaces, just in case)
- Apron for each participant (we strongly recommend to cover clothing as acrylic paints do not wash out easily)
- Container with a bit of water (enough to soak the tips of paint brushes between uses)
Each participant will need:
- 1 Canvas (or 1 sheet of canvas paper or artist quality water-colour paper)
- 1 Wide paintbrush (for background and broad strokes)
- 2 Fine-tipped paintbrushes (for finer details)
- 1 Small container for water (for rinsing/soaking brushes)
- 1 Paper plate for palette (have extras on hand in case of need)
- Paper towels or kitchen roll (for drying paint brushes between colours)
- Paints for the palette (Cerulean Blue, Vermillion Red, Lemon Yellow, Titanium White, Deep Green)
General tips:
- We are here to enjoy and to explore the magic of painting. Step-by-step instruction will be provided but feel free to take artistic license with your painting. That’s what artists do, after all.
- In order to achieve an accurate resemblance to the original painting, draw what you SEE, not what you THINK you see.
- It helps to break down the painting into basic shapes and blocks of colour.
- Sometimes the hardest part of painting is knowing when to put down the brush! Step back every few minutes and get a different perspective of your artwork, and ask yourself if it feels complete.
ZOOM:
If you have a question or comment, please write in the chat. The zoom master will happily read this aloud and I will do my best to address the question or comment.
Clean up:
Brushes should be washed in warm water and mild soap as soon as possible after the painting is completed. They can air-dry upside down. Water receptacles should likewise be rinsed (no soap necessary). You might want to let the paintings dry overnight on the plastic table cover.
