Leket Israel Highlighted at UN International Day of Zero Waste

In honor of the United Nations’ International Day of Zero Waste, Leket Israel was invited to take part in a global conversation on advancing sustainable solutions to food waste. While unable to attend in person, Leket Israel was proud that key data and insights from its work were shared as part of Israel’s contribution to the discussion. Leket Israel extends sincere thanks to the Israeli delegation to the UN, and in particular to Nitzan Arani, Economic and Social Affairs representative, for highlighting Israel’s efforts and incorporating Leket Israel’s impact into the broader national narrative.

This meaningful collaboration reflects the strength of the partnership in advancing shared goals on the international stage. This opportunity was made possible through the leadership of Ravit Dinmez-Yehezkel, VP Legal and Corporate Affairs at Leket Israel, whose work continues to deepen connections with global institutions and position Leket Israel within important international dialogues. During the discussion, Israel’s progress in addressing food waste was highlighted, including a 13% per capita reduction over the past decade and the adoption of a national plan targeting up to a 50% reduction. Legislative steps, including requirements for public institutions to donate surplus food, are helping drive this momentum. In 2025 alone, Leket Israel rescued over two million prepared meals and distributed nearly 34,000 tons of food, reaching more than half a million people through partnerships with farmers, retailers, and institutional kitchens.

The discussion also showcased Israeli innovation across the food supply chain, from extending shelf life and improving storage, to smarter distribution and waste-to-energy solutions, many of which are already being applied globally.

It was a meaningful moment to see Israel’s work, including Leket Israel’s contribution, recognized on such an important international stage and to be part of the global effort to build more sustainable and resilient food systems.
