Enjoying a Chanukkah treat doesn’t have to be unhealthy! Here’s a delicious recipe for baked jelly donuts from the Leket Israel Nutrition Department.
Ingredients
- 2.5 cups of white flour
- (or 1.5 cups of white flour and 1 cup of whole wheat flour)
- ½ teaspoon of salt
- 25 grams of fresh yeast
- 1 glass of lukewarm water
- 4 Tablespoons of canola oil
- 4 Tablespoons of sugar
- 1 egg
- Jam made from 100% fruit for filling
Directions
- Mix the yeast in the lukewarm water and set aside for 10 minutes for fermentation
- In another bowl, whisk together the canola oil, sugar and egg
- Add the flour to the yeast and mix well.
- Add the oil mixture to the flour and knead well until a uniform dough is formed
- Continue kneading well and place in a covered bowl for an hour or until the dough doubles in size
- After the dough has risen, roll out the dough to a thickness of about 1 cm.
- Cut out circles with a cup
- Cover with a towel and leave to rise for another 20 minutes
- Bake at 200 degrees C (392 degrees F) for 6 minutes
