Jelly Donuts Recipe

Enjoying a Chanukkah treat doesn’t have to be unhealthy! Here’s a delicious recipe for baked jelly donuts from the Leket Israel Nutrition Department.

Ingredients
  • 2.5 cups  of white flour
    • (or 1.5 cups of white flour and 1 cup of whole wheat flour)
  • ½ teaspoon of salt
  • 25 grams of fresh yeast
  • 1 glass of lukewarm water
  • 4 Tablespoons of canola oil
  • 4 Tablespoons of sugar
  • 1 egg
  • Jam made from 100% fruit for filling

Directions

  • Mix the yeast in the lukewarm water and set aside for 10 minutes for fermentation
  • In another bowl, whisk together the canola oil, sugar and egg
  • Add the flour to the yeast and mix well.
  • Add the oil mixture to the flour and knead well until a uniform dough is formed
  • Continue kneading well and place in a covered bowl for an hour or until the dough doubles in size
  • After the dough has risen, roll out the dough to a thickness of about 1 cm.
  • Cut out circles with a cup
  • Cover with a towel and leave to rise for another 20 minutes
  • Bake at 200 degrees C (392 degrees F) for 6 minutes
