Leket Beet July 2025

A monthly update for our most dedicated supporters from Gidi Kroch

Leket Israel doesn’t stop

Even as moments of quiet return and ceasefires are declared, Israel remains far from stable. The war that began on October 7, 2023, has grown into a broader regional conflict, exacerbated by the devastating Rising Lion war with Iran, which has led to continued rocket attacks, severe damage to infrastructure and agriculture, and prolonged uncertainty across the nation. While some communities are beginning to rebuild, the country is still in a state of emergency. Tens of thousands of displaced families are living in hotels across Israel, many receiving only minimal support. The needs are vast and varied, and consistent, nutritious meals are still out of reach for too many.

Meanwhile, Israeli farms have suffered devastating damage from rocket attacks. These are the very farmers who donate surplus produce to Leket Israel year-round. Now, they find themselves in need. Just as they have always stood by us, we are committed to standing by them in solidarity and support.

We are still in an emergency state.

Even if the news cycle has shifted, the reality on the ground has not. Hostages remain in Gaza. Soldiers continue to risk and lose their lives daily. Thousands are grieving, displaced, and struggling to regain their footing. The emotional, economic, and social toll is only beginning to reveal itself.

At Leket Israel, we don’t stop. From the earliest days of the war, we reactivated our emergency response model, despite immense challenges. The Rising Lion war with Iran severely disrupted access to food rescue sources like IDF bases, corporate cafeterias, and farms. Our volunteer programs were limited due to safety restrictions. Still, we adapted swiftly and effectively to continue serving our 415,000 weekly recipients and meet the new, urgent needs emerging daily.

Here is just a glimpse of what we’ve done:

  • Delivered purchased food provisions to over 196 nonprofit organizations nationwide.
  • Distributed 68,617cooked meals to more than 70 towns and cities.
  • Provided 796 metric tons of fresh produce, including nectarines, cucumbers, tomatoes, apples, and kohlrabi.
  • Sent pallets of drinking water to Tamra, where missile strikes damaged water infrastructure.
  • Opened forward storage units in six cities, stocked with 1,000 ready-to-use meals each for rapid deployment.
  • Continued support for students and schools, even when schools were closed.
  • Expanded our “Leket Express” network, utilizing smaller vehicles to access hard-to-reach communities.

The produce stands program was reactivated at the time of the Rising Lion war in hotels hosting evacuees. This initiative is informed by lessons learned from the Iron Swords conflict, when many displaced families lacked consistent access to fresh, healthy food options. By offering fresh, nourishing alternatives to packaged food and snacks, we provide comfort and improved nutrition to thousands of evacuees. This program is restarting, growing once again to meet the ongoing needs of displaced communities.

Through every challenge, we stay true to our mission. Because food is not just sustenance. It is comfort. It is human connection. It is warmth when everything else feels cold. It is a sense of home even when home is far away.

At moments like these, we see the soul of Israel. A nation rising in hardship. People standing shoulder to shoulder, united in resilience, compassion, and heart.

This is what makes Leket Israel unique. We are not just able to respond, we are built to respond. With over 22 years of experience, Leket Israel has cultivated the logistical strength, agility, and vision to meet the moment, whatever it may bring. When the landscape changes, we pivot. When doors close, we find others to open. When challenges grow, we rise to meet them.

No matter the war, the crisis, or the cost, our purpose stands firm.

Leket Israel doesn’t stop.
