Meet Chana Ayabelev, 76, a Russian immigrant living in Tel Aviv. For the past ten years Chana has been receiving donations of fresh fruits and vegetables from Leket Israel through one of Leket’s 200 nonprofit partner agencies in south Tel Aviv.
Chana shares: “Every day I thank God for giving me this food. I used to be healthy and active and now I live alone and have an aide helping me with everything. I came to Israel because I believe all Jews should be here. Unfortunately, I’m not as healthy as I used to be but at least I’m able to eat healthy meals and prepare some borscht and salad with these donations. I’m an optimist; I know everything is going to be okay.”
