Israel: May 8, 2014 – Izzy Dachs, a third grade student at Manhattan Day School on New York’s Upper West Side came in first place in American Friends of Leket Israel’s (www.leket.org) Celebrate Israel Parade Float Design Contest. Izzy and his family will ride on the float he designed at this year’s Celebrate Israel Parade on Sunday, June 1, 2014.

Several schools and students all across the tri-state area submitted beautiful and creative designs. Izzy’s sketch was selected by a panel of judges as the first-place winner.

“I am happy I won a national contest and excited that I’ll be riding on the Leket float in the Parade,” commented Izzy Dachs, the MDS third grader who came in first place in the contest.

Izzy’s elementary school principal, Rabbi Mordechai Besser, said: “Leket represents the values of chessed and tzedakah that we try to instill in all our students at MDS” and Chana Raitman, a 3rd Grade Jewish Studies teacher remarked that “Izzy is a bright and creative student. I am so proud of his great accomplishment.”

“We are thrilled that so many students and schools participated in American Friends of Leket Israel’s first ever float design contest,” said Joseph Gitler, Leket Israel’s Founder and Chairman.

“Thanks to Leket Israel’s strong connection with their volunteers and supporters from North America, the Celebrate Israel Parade is a wonderful opportunity for Leket to be a part of such an important event.”
